6 Top Networking Tips to grow your business in the new financial year

Thursday, June 25, 2009

The end of the financial year is a great time to sit back, take stock of what you have achieved over the past year and put plans in place to take your business to the next level in 2009/2010. So here are my six top networking tips for growing your business in the new financial year.

1.      Have a networking plan

No, not just a plan to attend 4 events each month and meet five people at each event. Link your networking to your business plan – what do you want to achieve in the new financial year?  Who can help you achieve your goals? Network to meet them.

2.      Follow up

Did you know that 95% of people fail to follow up after a networking event? Don’t be one of them!  Why not make a resolution to follow up from all your networking activities in 2009/2010?

3.      Re-connect

So perhaps you have been one of the 95% over the past 12 months.  It’s easy to do.  Many of us schedule time for networking and forget to schedule time for the all important follow up afterwards.  But it is never too late.  Why not get together with a strategic alliance partner, create an irresistible offer together and reconnect with the owners of all those business cards. After all what have you got to lose?

4.      Say thanks to your existing clients

When is the last time you did something special for your clients? Why not look at strategic alliances or joint ventures to say thankyou or provide extra value to your clients and expand your data base at the same time?

5.      Review and evaluate

Has your networking paid off over the past 12 months? The end of the financial year provides a great opportunity to review your networking efforts and make decisions about how to spend your networking dollar over the next 12 months.

6.      New financial year strategies

Want to move your business to a new level in 2009/10?
